After weeks of tension, schemes and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting end
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article discloses details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, audiences saw murders, double-crosses, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced the overwhelming tension.
Yet on the final evening, the final winner of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, only five remained: Traitors and faithfuls competing for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a surprising result that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Social media immediately exploded with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," wrote a viewer.
"There could not have been a better conclusion," wrote a different person, while someone else described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was one of the standout highlights of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, as noted by industry observers.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him keeping a straight face through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players summed up the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"He might have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate a person so loveable?" questioned a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the show.
"I want to participate once more... I doubt it would work again!"
Thursday evening's installment was extended to 70 minutes on television. There was an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs knew who'd make it at the morning gathering.
There was particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as we recapped key scenes from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began this game a bit of a nervous wreck. I've thrown close allies under the bus, I've eliminated national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I believed."
At the same time, another contestant commented that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have lasted this long.
Early on of the finale, several players seemed to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, taking over from an earlier departed style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Following this was the competition, with the remaining contestants boarding a locomotive called - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge saw them ripping up images of former contestants. Spare a thought for a player who was hit in the head multiple times by the cover of a substantial container.
Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers did a pinky promise in advance, vowing to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," said a player, while the other simply laughed.
However, one did stick to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, the other still received the majority elimination votes.
The remaining traitor looked like he was in significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," wrote a different viewer.
However, there remained no time to dwell on their elimination. Soon, they were at the final stage - which was what we were really all here for.
The final four gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their ally, who betrayed them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back at the final moment like that," said the ousted contestant. Later, we learned that when they message, the betrayed player refers to their former ally by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players remained in the game: the final trio.
One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the third, who did the same - resulting in the traitor was the winner.
For observers, the scene where remaining contestants consoled the winner was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they commented.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy the moment.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and here I am a winner," the winner said.
And he even joked about that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually occur. And we will miss it.
