Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the squad's ten-game without a victory beginning to the Premier League season.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.
Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.
Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the position.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they begin the process of appointing a new manager.
Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham United midfielder is out of work meaning the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
